Panthers hit late foul shots, beat Mustangs

WALDOBORO – Zach Durkee hit 5-of-6 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Medomak Valley Panthers edged the Mount View Mustangs, 73-71 in boys high school basketball action Friday.

Durkee finished with nine points.

Matt MacKenzie led all scorers with 24 points for Medomak while Justin Ames added 15 and Andy Ferrier 11, respectively.

Kyle Tripp paced the Mustangs of Thorndike with 23 points and Kyle Harvey added 18.

Josh Hunnefeld and Casey Hull tallied a goal and assist apiece for John Bapst and Matt Swift added a goal. Nate Kuneman and Doug Dieuveuil stopped all 11 shots they faced.

Paul Rucci had 38 saves on 43 shots for the Minutemen.
