Panthers pull away from Owls

MADAWASKA – Andrew York scored 19 of his 33 points in the second half as the Central Aroostook Panthers of Mars Hill pulled away for a 73-57 schoolboy basketball victory over the Madawaska Owls Monday.

Tim Carlson had 16 points for the Panthers and Taylor McLaughlin added 10 points.

Mark Sirois led Madawaska with 19 points and 13 rebounds and Alan Campbell also scored 19 points. Matt Beaulieu had 12 points and five assists.

At Brewer, Brad Libby scored seven of his nine points in the third overtime to push Brewer past Lawrence of Fairfield.

Chris Wilson hit 10 of 12 shots in the overtime sessions to help Brewer prevail.

Wilson scored 28 points and had 12 rebounds for the Witches. Brandon Hardy had 16 points and Ben Valley added 10 points. Ryan Babin had 11 rebounds.

Ben Costigan hit a 3-pointer as time expired to force the second overtime for Lawrence.

Cameron Oakes led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Jay Dangler scored 14 and Bobby Stitham had 11.

At Newcastle, Ryan Martin and Will Bardaglio scored 12 second-half points apiece as undefeated Maranacook of Readfield outscored Lincoln Academy 38-16 to erase a one-point halftime deficit.

Martin finished with a game-high 22 points for the 11-0 Black Bears. He also had five steals and four assists. Bardaglio added 16 points and seven steals, and Kevin Leary had 11 points.

Devon Peaslee’s 12 points paced Lincoln Academy. Jared Stailing and Matt Ford had eight apiece.

At Millar Arena, Houlton, Grady Anderson scored two of Houlton-Hodgdon’s four unanswered goals to lead the Black Hawks past Brewer.

Jordan Gard scored a second period goal for 7-2 Houlton-Hodgdon and Billy Policano added a goal with 1:08 left in the game. Zach Chase and Micah Carton both had two assists. Sharif Abouleish and Ian Pasquarelli each added an assist. Nic Joslyn made 26 saves on 28 shots.

Marc Relford and Devon Fitzpatrick both scored a first period goal for 9-2 Brewer. Ben Caldwell assisted the second goal as Aaron Saunders stopped 23 of 27 shots.

Presque Isle 5, Stearns 1

At Presque Isle, Brandon Daigle scored two goals and assisted another to help lead Presque Isle past Stearns of Millinocket.

Corey Collins scored twice for the 5-5 Wildcats and Erik St. Peter had a goal and an assist. Sean Flanigan and David O’Brien both had an assist. Ethan Hill stopped 17 of 18 shots.

Mike Simon scored on a Spencer Pelkey assist in the first period for the 0-7 Minutemen. Paul Rucci made 28 saves on 33 shots.

Girls basketball

At University of Maine at Presque Isle, Megan Korhonen scored nine points and had four assists to lead Greater Houlton Christian Academy to a win in its final home game.

Sarah Riopel scored nine points for the Eagles and Jessica Jago had nine rebounds.

Alex Bird led Washburn with eight points.
