ROCKLAND – The Wyeth Center at the Farnsworth Art Museum will open the Hadlock and Study Center galleries with an exhibition of works from the Wyeth Collection, titled “Andrew Wyeth: Selections,” beginning Jan. 28 and continuing through May 20.

Andrew Wyeth, born in 1917, made Maine his summer home in the 1930s. First introduced to the area by his father, N.C. Wyeth, he continues the seasonal excursion with his wife, Betsy James.

The Wyeth Center, which opened in 1998, has become the permanent home for the artwork Wyeth has done in Maine. The works in the center have come from Andrew and Betsy Wyeth’s personal collection.

The Wyeth Center is a testament to Andrew Wyeth’s importance in American art and to the Farnsworth Art Museum’s dedication to Maine’s role in the history of American art.

The exhibition is intended to offer a broad view of Andrew Wyeth’s Maine work, technically and chronologically. Many of the works in the exhibition are familiar locations in the midcoast region.
