HERMON – Kyle Staples went 7-for-8 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to lift the Mount Desert Island boys basketball team to a 53-49 victory over Hermon Saturday in high school action.
Staples had 13 points for the Trojans and Robin Daley chipped in with 12 points.
Ryan Tarr led the Hawks with 18 points and Shannon Thomas had 13 points.

Bucks sweep Vikings
At Buckfield, Chris Reuter scored a combined 38 points in two games as Buckfield earned two wins over Vinalhaven. The Bucks won Friday’s game 61-32 and earned a 73-34 win Saturday.
In Saturday’s game, Reuter scored 18 points and Sean Ridge added 14. Jamie Henderson chipped in with 10. Josh Ames led the Vikings with eight points.
In Friday’s game, Reuter poured in 20 points and three other Buckfield players contributed seven points apiece. Brandon Osgood and Corey James each scored 11 points to pace Vinalhaven.
