DOVER, N.H. – A man accused of severely injuring a police officer during a traffic stop has been arrested on unrelated charges in Maine.

According to police reports, Allan Nicholson, 24, of Milton drove through two stop signs in Dover on Thursday morning before being stopped by Officer Robert Russell. As a passenger handed over the car’s registration paperwork, Nicholson allegedly drove away, dragging the officer a short distance and severely injuring his arm and leg.

Witnesses said that at one point Russell was thrown onto the roof of the vehicle.

“He is pretty lucky he wasn’t hurt even more,” said Chief William Fenniman.

The two men then ditched the car and were chased by officers through downtown before jumping into a waiting pickup truck that sped into Maine, police said.

Nicholson was arrested around midnight Thursday when he was a passenger in a car stopped by police in York, Maine. He was charged with giving a false name to that officer along with other minor violations, and Dover police have issued a warrant for his arrest based on Tuesday’s incident.

Dover police plan to charge him with reckless conduct, disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license, and being a fugitive.

Police also believe Nicholson falsified his address by registering as a sex offender in Somersworth but never living there.
