Police in Old Town charged two Prentice Street residents Saturday night with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol.

When police responded to a report of a party at about 10:15 p.m., they found a woman in the driveway holding an alcoholic beverage. The woman did not appear to be 21 years old and said that she was just leaving a party, according to police.

Police then knocked on the door to the apartment, but no one answered the first time they knocked. When the officers finally were let in they learned that Lisa Gibson, 19, of Norridgewock and Jacqueline Lagasse, 19, of Old Town were the tenants there. About 20 people were present at the party, and all but two were drinking, police said.

Gibson and Lagasse were charged with providing a place for minors to consume alcohol.

Another partygoer, Patrick McDonough, 21, of Old Town, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct after police asked him several times to leave the residence and he refused.

A Veazie man, apparently tired of his girlfriend’s sister’s living with them for free, assaulted both women Thursday in an effort to remove the visiting sister, according to police.

Philip Bailey, 21, was charged with domestic assault, assault and criminal mischief after the incident on Thompson Road, where Veazie police Officer Todd Nadeau was called about 4 p.m. for a report of a domestic fight.

Nadeau arrived as the sisters were trying to leave in a car. According to the police report, Bailey argued with his girlfriend that her sister had been living there without paying for anything. Instead of calling the police, Bailey reportedly grabbed his girlfriend’s sister by the leg as she was sitting in a bedroom and pulled her across the apartment.

He also allegedly pushed and shoved his girlfriend as he headed to the door with the sister. In addition, he is accused of damaging the sister’s laptop computer and other items.

A Veazie man remained hospitalized in an induced coma late last week after he tried to commit suicide after a fight with his girlfriend who was charged with assaulting him.

Ashley Newbury, 28, was charged with domestic assault and criminal mischief in connection with a Feb. 8 fight at the School Street residence where she lived with her boyfriend.

Veazie police Officer Mike Adams reported that the fight began after Newbury discovered her boyfriend had used their rent money to buy drugs. She is accused of striking her boyfriend on the head, leaving three 9-inch gashes on his neck – from his left ear to his collarbone – with her fingernails. She also is accused of destroying some of his stereo equipment.

Authorities initially were called to the home for a report of an overdose, and Adams reported that the boyfriend took an unknown amount of antidepressant medications from five bottles as well as drank a quart of coffee brandy.

He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was medically induced into a coma. He remained in that condition Friday, a family member told police.

The owner of Cutler’s Embroidery in Bangor found his shop in shambles at 7:30 a.m. Friday.

When Mike Cutler arrived at work he found that his two front windows had been smashed in and the metal frame around the windows bent sometime after the shop had been closed at 5 the night before. Two wooden posts to a balcony also had been knocked down.

According to police reports, it appeared that a car had been backed or driven into the building, although no entry had been gained.

Damage was estimated at $1,500, and there are no leads in the incident.
