Boothbay, Valley advance to semifinals

AUGUSTA – Patrick Norton scored 16 points and Ray Arsenault added 13 to lead No. 1 Boothbay Region to a 49-40 Western Maine Class C quarterfinal win over No. 9 Georges Valley in boys basketball action Monday.

Matt Sleviour chipped in with nine points for the winners and Kris Noonan netted eight.

Stephan Rannay led Georges Valley of Thomaston with 11 points while Todd Cousins and Nate Frisbin had eight each.

At the Augusta Civic Center, the No. 1 Cavaliers took a 41-30 lead at the half and then outscored the No. 8 Hawks 23-7 in the third period en route to the quarterfinal victory in Western Maine Class D.

Valley of Bingham advanced to a Wednesday semifinal at 11:30 a.m. Travis Hovey paced the winners with 21 points, Cole Pullen put in 12 and Shawn Lay netted 10.

Ben Lovell led North Haven with 22 points and Scot Baribeau added 10.
