TRENTON – An Ellsworth man died Tuesday morning after an accidental fall off a barn roof.

Richard “Beaver” West, 55, was on the roof of a Bar Harbor Road horse barn at about 11 a.m. when he fell. Ambulance personnel responding to an emergency-911 call from a woman at the scene attempted to resuscitate West, but he died before officers from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene.

West’s next of kin were notified and the medical examiner’s office made a preliminary ruling that it was an accidental death.
