RUMFORD – Aroostook County athletes made a strong showing in the skimeister competition as Maranacook captured the Class B skiing title for the girls and Yarmouth won the boys championship on Saturday at Black Mountain.
Julianna Lord of Presque Isle won the girls skimeister by placing 25th in the giant slalom, 19th in the slalom, seventh in the cross country freestyle, and 15th in the cross country classical for a total of 66 points. Maranacook’s Emma Prysunka was second with 76 points and Catherine Collins of Caribou was third with 78.
Casey Spencer of Maranacook won the boys skimeister with a total of 85 points with Caribou’s Caleb Swanberg was a close second with 89 points. Jack Gross of Yarmouth finished third with 99 points.
Yarmouth finished behind Maranacook for the girls championship by 11 points and Fryeburg was third with 308 points. Presque Isle finished eighth with 585 points.
Fryeburg was second to Yarmouth for the boys title with 224 points and third was Mountain Valley with 273 points. Caribou was fifth with 419 and Presque Isle finished in eighth with 622 points.
Russell Currier of Caribou won the boys cross country classical race with a time of 12 minutes, 15.3 seconds and teammate Joey Bard was fourth (12:46.2). Presque Isle’s top finisher was Corey Park in 13th with a time of 14:08.5.
Cape Elizabeth’s Clare Egan won the girls cross country classical with a time of 14:58.3. Caribou racers Julie Carson (16:18.6) and Catherine Collins (17:03.7) finished fifth and 10th, respectively.
