Maine wins two
At Orlando, Fla., Brittany Cheney and Meagan Ramos each hit a home run as the Black Bears defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 14-0 and downed Colgate 3-1 Saturday in the Rebel Games.
In the first game, Ramos hit a pinch-hit grand slam for UMaine as Sarah Bennis allowed just one hit and struck out six in four innings. Kristie Hawkins hit two doubles and a single to knock in two runs.
In the second game, with the game tied in the sixth inning, Cheney hit a two-run home run to lead 12-6 Maine to victory. Ashley Waters singled and a misplay on the ball allowed Dana Grimm, who had walked and advanced to second on an Erin Provost sacrifice bunt, to score the tying run.
