Fire in Winterport leaves two dogs dead Officials suspect dishwasher malfunction

Two dogs perished in a house fire on Riverview Heights Road in Winterport on Sunday afternoon.

Scott and Anne Dunham returned home at 3:15 p.m. to find smoke coming out of their house and their dogs inside.

The fire started in the dishwasher and engulfed the kitchen, according to Winterport Fire Chief Thomas Doe. The rest of the house only sustained heat damage.

The fire was out by 4:30 p.m.

Frankfort, West Frankfort and Hampden fire departments assisted in this incident.

A Hampden minor was arrested and charged with operating under the influence on Friday.

An erratic driver was reported around 1:45 p.m., and Hampden police found the vehicle in the parking lot of Edward’s Supermarket at 4 p.m.

The 17-year-old male resisted arrest after being questioned about alcohol consumption, according to police reports.

He was given an Intoxilyzer test and his blood alcohol level was .13 percent.

The youth was charged with operating under the influence and driving on the wrong side of the road. He was released to his parents.

A Bangor man was arrested Saturday after a police officer noticed that his Ford Focus did not have a front license plate.

A Bangor police officer noticed the car traveling down Ohio Street without its front license plate at about 11:20 p.m. and stopped it. The car pulled into the parking lot at 818 Ohio St.

When the officer asked Peter Rodriguez, 21, of Bangor to step out for field sobriety tests, the officer first did a search of Rodriguez and found a set of brass knuckles in his jacket pocket, according to police reports.

Rodriguez was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail where he was issued a summons on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon and warned for not having a front license plate.
