Tidbits

Egg-xact timing

Tired of runny eggs when you want hard-boiled? Try the new Chef’s Choice Gourmet Egg Cooker. It quickly cooks up to 7 eggs exactly the way you want them. It costs $29.95. For store information, visit www.chefschoice.com.

Diverse dishes

Take a culinary tour during Maine Central Institute’s World Food Festival this Saturday in Parks Gymnasium on the Pittsfield campus. MCI’s residential students will prepare recipes from their native countries and will be on hand to discuss food customs. Among the represented countries are Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Greece. The event costs $5 per person. For information, call 487-3355.

Quite a pair

Move over wine and cheese or steak and eggs. These days, the hot pairing is chocolate – with cognac, stout, brioche, toasted almonds or figs, to name a few. Ghirardelli’s new line of Intense Dark Gourmet Chocolate Bars fits the bill, whether alone or in a pair. Try Twilight Delight, a deep, creamy bar with 72 percent cacao. Or, if you want a low-maintenance treat, try Citrus Sunset, which blends dark chocolate with orange flavor and caramel chips, Espresso Escape or Toffee Interlude. Bars cost $2.99 and are available in grocery and drugstores.
