FORT KENT – A former St. Francis resident, now living in Hermon, has been summoned to appear in Aroostook County Superior Court to face charges involving insurance fraud.

Gordon Pelletier, 46, was summoned by central Maine police on a complaint by the Fort Kent Police Department.

Fort Kent Police Chief Kenneth Michaud said Pelletier faces charges of making a false public alarm or report and insurance fraud.

Michaud said Pelletier, who is already on probation in a previous insurance fraud case, is scheduled to appear in court in Caribou on May 18.

According to the police chief, Pelletier purchased a lumber-hauling trailer from Herman Theriault of Fort Kent in June 2005. In turn, Pelletier sold the trailer and then made a claim with an insurance company.

He claimed new tires, valued at $6,000, were stolen off the trailer while it was parked.

Pelletier made a report to Fort Kent police about the theft and filed a claim with his insurance company for the value of the tires.

In their investigation, police discovered that the trailer never had new tires when it was purchased and that Pelletier had never purchased tires for the trailer.

Michaud said Pelletier was previously indicted in another attempted insurance fraud involving other property he owned.

Pelletier was summoned on Monday, Michaud said.
