Two lifelong friends become Eagle Scouts Brewer seniors complete community projects

BREWER – Devin Ohmart and James Ecker were awarded Eagle Scout badges on March 18 during a ceremony in the mess hall at the Katahdin Scout Reservation, Camp Roosevelt in Eddington. After the ceremony, the Scouts and their guests enjoyed a sundae buffet.

In addition to their Scouting activities, both boys are at the top of the 2006 graduating class at Brewer High School. They are members of the National Honor Society.

In sports, Ecker has excelled in football and Ohmart has led in soccer. Both boys have participated in track and competitive high-power rifle shooting.

In order the achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, the boys were required to plan and execute an Eagle Scout project, a task that would benefit the community.

Ohmart chose to build 17 floor-to-ceiling oak bookcases for Temple Beth El’s library in Bangor. Ecker designed and built an outdoor classroom for Holden Elementary School.

In the fall, Ohmart plans to study engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass. Ecker plans to begin premedicine studies at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.
