Kenduskeag woman to walk for cancer funds

For the second year in a row, Ruth Susee of Kenduskeag is going to participate in not only one but two three-day, 60-mile walks to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.

Susee wrote that she has “committed to walk in Boston, in August, and Chicago, in September,” and that she must raise $2,200 for each walk.

Known as the Breast Cancer 3-Day, 12 walks will be made this year from August to November in U.S. cities from Boston to San Diego.

Last year’s nationwide event raised more than $10 million for breast cancer treatment, Susee wrote.

She continues to take part in the walks, she wrote, because she believes that a cure for “breast cancer and all other cancers will be found, and research is crucial to that end. Also, I walk because I am continually being reminded of the devastating [effects] of this disease.”

To help with her fundraiser, donations can be made online at www.the3day.org by clicking on “Donate Today,” selecting Boston or Chicago, and entering the name of Ruth Susee.

“This will take you to my personal Web page,” she wrote. “Donations can be made, online, or a donation form can be printed and mailed.”
