Bangor man captured after fleeing police

ORONO – A Bangor man fled from police late Monday night, prompting an extensive search through fields and along the Stillwater River, although he was located later in the drive-through of a Dunkin’ Donuts.

David Allan Desjardins, 41, was charged with violation of bail conditions and criminal mischief after the more than three-hour search for him that began when Orono police Officer Christopher Foxworthy saw Desjardins parked at the municipal parking lot by Pat’s Pizza at 8:47 p.m. Monday.

Desjardins was required to allow police to search him and his car as part of bail conditions from an arrest earlier this month, but Desjardins would have nothing to do with it.

When Foxworthy approached him, Desjardins flipped a deck of cards at the officer and told him “the trick’s on you,” Orono police Sgt. Josh Ewing said Tuesday. Desjardins took off running, damaging a fence he was climbing over to get away from police.

Investigators searched along the river and by the University of Maine with a state trooper and his dog, but at about 1 a.m., the trail and search ended at a Stillwater gas station. Desjardins had parked another car at the station, but didn’t take it, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing Desjardins leaving in a different car driven by a woman and headed to Old Town. At about 2:30 a.m., Old Town police Officer Brent Fournier located the car in the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through.

Ewing said that police have had increased problems with Desjardins recently, including on April 1, when he repeatedly followed police cruisers in his car and then on foot, shouting at them. After about four hours of this, he was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Authorities arrested Desjardins on April 19 when Foxworthy found that he had a folding razor knife in his pocket and marijuana in his car while investigating a report Desjardins was filing that someone had keyed his car.
