Gardiner singing group to compete in Vt. event

Members of Maine-ly Harmony women’s a cappella chorus, based in Gardiner, along with two local quartets, are singing their hearts out these days, getting ready to deliver their best-ever performances during Showers of Harmony, set for April 28-30 in Burlington, Vt. They will be up against 11 other choruses and 15 other quartets from the Northeast and Canadian provinces when they hit the competition stage.

Toward that end, the chorus spent a recent weekend in Rockland devoting every waking hour to their craft and receiving coaching from champion chorus director Jean O’Connor of Chicago.

The competing quartets are Omigosh!, consisting of lead Anne Danforth of Chelsea, tenor Debbie Staples of Waterville, bass Debbie Greim of Auburn and baritone Sue Staples of Bangor; and Along Four the Ride, consisting of lead Renae Misner of Waterville, tenor Lynn Bustard of Waterville, bass Denise “D” Dyer of Standish and baritone Yvonne Drake of Bangor.

Maine-ly Harmony, a chapter of Harmony Inc., an international organization, is directed by Kathy Greason and meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Gardiner Regional Middle School, Cobbossee Avenue, Gardiner. Women and girls are invited to join in the singing or just see what it’s all about. Call Lea at 622-1273 or Gerry at 622-5730 for more information.
