Riots break out, roar past Patriots

ORONO – The host Orono Red Riots scored 11 runs in the third courtesy of eight hits, three errors, and a hit batter to break open a tie game en route to a 13-7 high school baseball win over Penquis Valley of Milo on Wednesday.

Max Winter allowed five hits and eight walks but struck out 15 to lead Orono. Travis Dunton had a triple, double, and an RBI. Jon Brothers added two singles and two RBIs. Lloyd Bryant singled twice.

Rick Venable had a double, single, and three RBIs, and Derek Lyford added two singles for the Patriots.

At Old Town, Jarrett Lukas had a three-run shot and a two-run shot and Danny Leland and Brian Lonko each hit solo homers as the Coyotes beat the Bulldogs of Fairfield.

Adam Fournier added two singles, a double, and an RBI for Old Town.

John Flynn hit a two-run homer and Brian Manzo a three-run homer for Lawrence.

At East Millinocket, Tim Zabierek and O’Neil Qualey each had three singles and drove in three runs to lead Katahdin of Stacyville past Schenck.

Chris Savage chipped in with three singles for the Cougars.

Nick Bishop had a single and two RBI and Chris Byron added a single and an RBI for the Wolverines.

At Lee, Charlie Boulrisse drove in six runs to launch the Pandas past Piscataquis.

Boulrisse hit a grand slam and a two-run double for Lee Academy. Blaine Clark notched a double, two singles, and three runs, and Tyler Thompson had two singles and three RBIs. Everett Houghton added a single and three RBIs.

Roy Burdin and Jarrod Robinson each had an RBI single for the Pirates.

At Howland, Levi Nickerson and Jacob Speed each hit two singles to pace the Red Devils.

Central took advantage of 10 walks and scored 14 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Ryan Ware had a triple and an RBI, and Corey Cyr added two singles for the Howlers.

At Newport, Tony Jacobs collected two singles, a double and three RBI to lead Messalonskee past Nokomis.

Justin Willey added two singles and an RBI, and Nick Curato added a single a two runs for the Eagles of Oakland.

Zach Leal smacked three singles and drove in two runs for Nokomis. Rikki Hopkins had a triple and two RBI, and Josh White added a single, double and an RBI for the Warriors.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Kyle Gallant smacked a double and Tyler King hit a single with an RBI to lead John Bapst past Foxcroft Academy.

Shayne Croan had a double and David White chipped in with a double and an RBI for the Ponies.

At Milo on Tuesday, Zach Beals hit a solo home run in the first inning and later singled to help lead Penquis to victory.

Kyle Gerow hit an RBI double in the sixth inning for the Patriots, and Justin Morrill singled twice.

Shane Tracy doubled, singled, and knocked in a run for Piscataquis of Guilford, and Roy Burdin hit a two-run double.

At the Bangor High field, Lacey Littlefield pitched a six-hitter as the Broncos edged the Rams.

Liz Kiser had an RBI double in Hampden’s three-run first inning.

Bangor’s Tawnya Godinez and Amy Hackett each contributed an RBI single in the seventh. Kelly White singled twice for the Rams.

At Orono, Erica Lyford pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Patriots earned the road victory.

Naomi Davis had a double and Kaitlin Smith added a single for Piscataquis.

At Lee, Brooke Harris took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, striking out seven and walking none, as Lee Academy rolled past Piscataquis Community of Guilford in five innings.

Harris helped her own cause with five singles and two runs driven in. Karin Bird socked a pair of two-run doubles and added an RBI single.

Marci Moors notched two singles, a double, and plated a run for the Pandas, and Dana Houghton chipped in with three singles and an RBI.

Brianna Shufelt doubled leading off the fifth to break up the no-hitter for the Pirates.

Whitney Page tripled and singled for Sumner, while Lona Sargent drove in two runs on four singles. Morgan Traxler doubled to lead off the fifth inning and also added a triple.

Amy Collinsworth paced the Minutemen of Millinocket with a two-run homer in the sixth and two singles. Deanna Michaud chipped in with three singles.
