Washington Academy, Machias record victories

EAST MACHIAS – Takao Kurose pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking six, to lead the Washington Academy Raiders to a 6-0 high school baseball win over the Shead Tigers Friday.

Corey Colbeth paced the Washington Academy offense with two doubles and two singles. Jeffrey Ramsdell slammed a three-run home run and a single. Tim Nicely tripled and Nick Wood doubled.

Aaron Sullivan, Justin Lewey, Chris Newman and Thomas Pottle posted singled for Shead of Eastport.

At Skowhegan, Matt Morin hit a triple and knocked in three runs to lead the Indians to the win.

Mike LaCasse had two singles and two runs scored for Skowhegan. Jason Dore singled twice and Les Marcue doubled.

Ian Lee hit a double and three singles for Hampden Academy and Dan MacLean doubled and singled.

At Machias, Jake Funari allowed two hits while striking out seven batters and walking two as his host Bulldogs beat East Grand of Danforth.

Jacob Stevens and Isaiah Roberts each singled twice for the Bulldogs.

Eric Preston and Josh Barnes singled for the Vikings.

At Brewer, Shawn Gray had a two-run double and a two-run single to highlight a 13-run fourth inning as Brewer defeated Old Town.

Also in the fourth, Mike Kotredes added two singles with three RBIs while Rick Adams added a two-run double for the Witches.

Mitch Peasley added three singles and three RBIs in the game.

Jarrett Lukas had a two-run double for old Town.

At Howland, Richard Theriault hit a two-run single to help push Penobscot Valley past Stearns of Millinocket.

Scott Kelley hit a two-run home run and a single to drive in four runs for the Red Devils and Charlie Haney doubled and singled with an RBI. Andy Bell had two singles and an RBI and Danny Kane hit a two-run single. Collins doubled.

Logan Greenlaw and Janto Drinkwater each hit an RBI single for Penquis of Milo and Dylan Lyford doubled.

At Oakland, Amanda Barker pitched a no-hitter while striking out nine and walking three to lead Messalonskee to victory.

Ashley Currier singled twice to drive in three runs for the Eagles and Ciara Corbett hit a three-run triple. Marilyn Perry had two singles and two RBIs and Chelsey Boulette had two singles and an RBI.

At Fairfield, Sam Besse pitched a no-hitter, allowing one run with seven strikeouts, to lead Bangor by Lawrence.

Tawnya Godinez had a single, two doubles, two triples and two RBIs while Kelly White hit two doubles and a single with two RBIs. Amy Hackett and Ilyse Angst each added three singles for the Rams.

Lawrence scored its only run on a fielder’s choice in the second inning.

At Skowhegan, Marsha Daigle pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Indians won a pitchers’ duel.

Michelle Wells pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Broncos.

Skowhegan scored all its runs in the first inning. Emily Hodgdon and Danelle Goff each doubled to spark the rally, and two runs scored on an error.

The Broncos scored an unearned run in the sixth.

Allie McKay and Courtney Lloyd singled for the Vikings’ only hits.

Tiffany Wormell hit a double and Gena Clark singled for the only Woodland hits.

Erica Lyford tripled and scored a run for Penquis of Milo.

At Lee, winning pitcher Michelle Chapman had four singles and three RBIs as the Tigers earned their second win.

Allyssa Crane added three singles for Dexter, while Becky Johnson had two singles and Katie Poirier and Tracy Mountain each had two RBIs.

Kerri Harris led Lee with four singles, while Liz Read had three singles and an RBI and Amanda Gifford, Aarika Ritchie and Dana Houghton each had two singles and an RBI.

Jordan McLain tripled and singled to drive in three runs for the Witches and Megan McLain had a double and a single with two RBIs. Julie Lorenz had two singles and an RBI and Christine Thoms doubled and singled. Katie Quimby hit an RBI single.

Erin Reardon hit an infield single in the fourth inning for Old Town.
