Bag on police station steps called a hoax

A suspicious package was found on the steps of the Bangor Police Department around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The package was a paper bag with the top rolled shut and sealed with duct tape. Officer Doug Moore, a bomb expert, X-rayed the item and deemed it safe.

The contents turned out to be crumpled-up newspaper. There is no explanation except that it was a “hoax device,” according to reports.

A counterfeit $20 bill was passed at a McDonald’s in Bangor Monday morning.

Employees at the Main Street McDonald’s were able to get the license-plate number of a vehicle driven by the woman who tried to pass the bill. Police were able to trace the plate number back to Rent-a-Wreck in Hampden and get a name, according to reports.

Charges may be pending, according to police.

An Old Town man out on bail for two incidents earlier this year was arrested for a third time Monday.

Holden police Officer Chris Greeley spotted a pickup truck with a cracked windshield, no front license plate and no inspection sticker as it passed in the opposite direction of Greeley on U.S. Route 1A. The officer caught up with the vehicle on Interstate 395 and recognized the driver from previous dealings as Darryl L. Ogden, 34, of Old Town.

Greeley said Ogden was out on bail from two arrests, one in January and the other in February, and as part of bail conditions was to obey the law. The pickup truck’s registration had been suspended and Greeley found drug paraphernalia including a small container with marijuana residue on it. Greeley arrested Ogden on a charge of violation of bail conditions.
