Police identified the 38-year-old woman killed in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 north of Lincoln on Thursday as Susan Conway of Houlton.
Conway had been driving south when her Chevrolet Blazer left the interstate and she overcorrected to try to regain control of the vehicle, according to the preliminary investigation into the early afternoon accident. The Blazer slid sideways after returning to the pavement and rolled over about three times before coming to rest on its roof, reported Trooper Kyle Willette.
Conway was extricated from the sport utility vehicle and was taken to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln where she was pronounced dead.
Traffic was backed up for more than five miles because of the accident and began moving after 21/2 hours.
