Propane leak empties Skowhegan bowling alley

SKOWHEGAN – A propane leak Friday night, possibly caused by vandalism, resulted in the evacuation of some 100 people from Ken’s Bowling Center at 414 Madison Ave.

Ken’s Bowling Center also has a tavern and banquet facility, firefighter Shawn Howard said Sunday, noting that more than 100 people were inside when the propane leak forced the building evacuation.

The cause of the leak “appears to be vandalism,” Howard said.

MaineGas repaired the leak, he said, and employees were allowed back inside to close up for the night. The bowling center reopened for business the next day, he said.

About eight firefighters went Friday night to shut down the tanks and ventilate the building, he said, adding there were no injuries from the incident.
