Brewer lifts CAHS to first win

MARS HILL – Samantha Brewer cranked a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to give Central Aroostook the lead for good as the Panthers picked up their first win of the spring, 10-9 over Fort Fairfield in a high school softball game Monday.

Latisha Neece added a two-run single for the winners.

Lauren Beckwith and Whitney Searles each singled twice and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Marilyn Harris added a single and an RBI.

At Waldoboro, Brittany Barbour tossed a three-hit shutout and helped herself with a two-run double as the Panthers rolled past the Tigers.

April Baker added two singles, a double and two RBIs for Medomak while Melissa Ambridge singled twice to drive in two runs. Erin Sweeney and Jamie O’Jala each hit three singles. Barbour struck out five and walked one in the win.

At Fort Kent, Tom Desjardins went 6-for-6 with seven RBIs as the Warriors earned the doubleheader sweep.

In the first game, Desjardins hit a two-run home run and singled twice, while Bud Soucy singled twice and had an RBI.

Andrew Taylor doubled and singled with an RBI for Van Buren.

In the second game, Desjardins doubled twice and singled with four RBIs, while Derek Bonenfant had three singles, a double and three RBIs.

Soucy added a double and single with two RBIs, while Tim Devaney and Gib Michaud each had two singles and two RBIs and Josh Tardif and Drew Blier singled twice apiece.

Trevor Hews led Van Buren with a two-run homer, a double and a single.
