UMaine women’s hockey adds four Perron anticipates more offense, speed

University of Maine women’s hockey coach Guy Perron has added four forwards to his list of incoming recruits for next season.

Robyn Law, sister of Maine first-team All-Hockey East defenseman Kelly Law, has transferred in from two-time NCAA Tournament team Mercyhurst (Pa.) College while the others are Winnipeg, Manitoba, native Jenna Ouellette; Woodstock, New Brunswick’s Abby Barton; and Amy Stech, the school’s first women’s hockey player from Minnesota (Duluth).

They will join center Taryn Peacock and defenseman Elyce Thomas in the class.

“If you look at our recruiting class, we went for offense,” said Perron. “We got some great players with great skill, hockey sense, and speed.”

He said they recruited hard-nosed, hard-working players to improve their competitiveness.

“I’m really excited about our class,” added Perron.

The 5-foot-6 Law had four goals and four assists in 37 games for the 23-8-6 Lakers last season.

“She’s very fast and she’s a great passer. She’s very offense-oriented and has the potential to be a great player,” said Perron.

The 5-5 Ouellette was the leading scorer for the Warner Warriors of the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League with 33 goals and 28 assists.

“Jenna has great hands and she can put the puck in the net,” said Perron.

The 5-6 Barton captained the Warner Warriors and had 12 goals and 21 assists.

“Abby’s a great skater and she’s very energetic,” said Perron. “She’s a very, very hard worker and will raise our level of intensity.”

The 5-foot-10 Stech had 16 goals and 18 assists and was the second leading scorer on her Duluth East High School team.

“She’s pretty quick for a big kid,” said Perron. “She’ll be a penalty-killer and we also expect her to take up some room in front of the net.”
