BANGOR – If there is a line between stage and film, “Movie Geek” does more than cross it. It rips the line from the floor, shreds it and tosses it like confetti in the air over the audience watching the multimedia performance.

Penobscot Theatre Company will stage – and screen – four performances of “Movie Geek” Friday through Sunday, June 2-4, at the Bangor Opera House on Main Street.

“The cast of ‘Movie Geek’ delivers a precision performance,” said Scott Levy, artistic director of PTC. “Their lively interaction with silver screen stars, projected behind them, will have the audience questioning what’s ‘real’ and what’s ‘reel.'”

“Movie Geek” is the story of a man who would become the world’s biggest movie aficionado, told in the style that crosses “Citizen Kane” with a Ken Burns’ PBS documentary. Six live actors seamlessly interact with celluloid stars to tell the tale of Geek’s rise to fame and his subsequent Hollywood downfall.

“‘Movie Geek’ won the best multimedia production award following its sold-out run at the 2005 New York International Fringe Festival, the largest multi-arts festival in North America,” Levy said.

The cast of “Movie Geek” includes Eric Clem, who just finished his run with the Penobscot Theatre Company portraying someone from Maine in “Almost, Maine.”

Co-creator and playwright of “Movie Geek,” Dylan Dawson, along with actors Josh Halloway and Adam Lustick, lend their talents to the performance, while Maggie Marion and Shannon Walker round out the cast.

PTC’s performances of “Movie Geek” are made possible in part by a grant from the Maine Community Foundation’s Maine Theater Fund.
