Ramsdell lifts Raiders to victory

EAST SULLIVAN – Jeff Ramsdell knocked a two-run single in the top of the sixth and added a two-run double in the first to lift the Washington Academy baseball team to a 6-4 high school victory over Sumner on Wednesday.

Corey Colbeth and James Stauffer added two singles apiece for the Raiders of East Machias.

Steve Carignan sparked Sumner with a two-run single. Chris Cowperthwaite singled twice and Victor Jacuqes doubled and singled.

At Bar Harbor, Alex Yates pitched a six-hit shutout and hit an RBI single to lead John Bapst of Bangor to the win.

John Gagnon laced a two-run double and Casey Hull added an RBI single for the Crusaders.

Ben Clark doubled and singled while Peter Warrick singled twice for the Trojans.

LCS-MSSM wins two

At Limestone, Limestone/Maine School of Science and Math racked up 32 runs on 25 hits to beat East Grand 10-1 and Hodgdon 22-5.

In the first game, Mike Hancock and Dustin Morgan each had a two-run single and Matt Enman singled and doubled for the Eagles.

Eric Preston had an RBI single for East Grand of Danforth.

In the second game, Hancock doubled, singled three times and knocked in two runs and Morgan doubled twice to drive in three more as the Eagles rolled over the Hawks.

Enman singled three times and Andrew Kirchner twice for the winners.

Matt Slyvester doubled while Jamie Ryan and Jordan Guy each singled for Hodgdon.

At Dexter, lefty Richie Tompkins fashioned a five-hitter and Thomas Douglas broke a 2-2 tie with a second-inning single as Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford triumphed.

Tompkins struck out four and walked one.

Roy Burdin and Andy Zimmerman had singles for PCHS.

Ben Spizuoco tripled and singled for Dexter and Dan Beatham doubled.

Brandon Woodman tossed six innings of two-hit shutout relief with five strikeouts and a walk for Dexter.

At Orono, Max Winter pitched four innings of one-hit shutout ball and led the offense by getting a triple and two singles as his Red Riots blanked Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Ben Perry had a triple, a double, and five RBIs for the Red Riots. Sean Babin had two singles and two RBIs.

Jason Chabot’s single with two outs in the fourth was the lone hit for the Howlers.

At Pittsfield, Mike Eaton of Oak Hill took a no-hitter into the seventh inning with two outs until Chris Smedberg hit an RBI single for Maine Central Institute.

Eric Daniels hit a two-run single for Oak Hill of Sabattus and Josh Jillson added two singles and a run scored. Eaton had four strikeouts and one walk.

Lee sweeps Katahdin

At Stacyville, Blaine Clark hit two singles and a two-run double to help lead Lee Academy to the 15-9 win over Katahdin in the first game. The Pandas also won the second game 8-6.

In the first game, Kris King homered and singled for Lee and B.J. Crocker hit a two-run double and an RBI single.

James Zabierk hit a three-run home run, and solo home run, and a single for Katahdin. Patrick Willett had a two-run double and a single as Jared Anderson and Keith Anderson each singled twice.

In the second game, Tyler Thompson doubled twice and drove in a run for Lee and Crocker had two singles and an RBI. King hit an RBI double and Clark singled twice.

Willett hit an RBI double for the Cougars. Casey Savage singled twice and Owen McCarthy singled and knocked in a run.

At Fort Fairfield, Alex Martin singled four times and knocked in two runs to help Van Buren to victory.

Trevor Hews hit a two-run home run and a single for Van Buren and Kyle Chasse doubled and singled with an RBI.

Hews allowed just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Jake Kenneson hit an RBI triple for Fort Fairfield and recorded 10 strikeouts.

At Ashland, with a one run lead in the fifth inning, Jeremy Tarr hit a two-run double to help lead Ashland to victory.

Tarr doubled and singled with two runs scored for the Hornets. Henry Milligan had two doubles and a run scored and Justin Belanger singled twice.

R.J. Richardson tripled and singled with two runs scored for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Eric Martinez had two singles and two RBIs and Cameron York hit a two-run single.

At Belfast, Heather Read scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Jillian Ross line drive single to centerfield for Belfast.

Liz Brown hit an RBI single for Belfast.

April Baker singled twice and scored a run for Medomak Valley of Waldoboro. Stephanie Lee had a single and two RBIs and Kayla Winchenbach singled and scored a run.

At Blue Hill, Robin Rioux drove in two runs on a double and Natasha Robbins added a two-run single to lead George Stevens Academy past Deer-Isle Stonington.

Whitney Haskell and Regyn Lawry each notched two singles and Shanna Weeks chipped in with a single for the Mariners.

At East Sullivan, Megan Look hit four singles and a two-run homer to lead Washington Academy of East Machias to the win.

Lauren Finn had three singles and three runs scored for the Raiders and Rebekah Cox hit a double and two singles. Joslyn Corey doubled and singled with four RBIs and Carilla Fritz tripled.

Kayla Higgins hit a triple, double, and two singles for Sumner. Nichole Leach tripled and singled and Angela Leach doubled and singled. Lona Sargent added two singles.

At Calais, Stephanie Perry and Tessa Clark combined on a one-hitter, striking out seven and walking four, as Calais won the Downeast Athletic Conference championship game.

Ashley Allen homered and doubled for Calais; Clark hit a two-run double and Perry hit a two-run single.

Breanna Beal singled for Jonesport-Beals’ only hit.

At Orono, Jamie Milton scattered one run on three hits while striking out 10 and walking only two as the Howlers of Howland took advantage of eight Orono walks and four errors to earn the win.

Lexi Thurlow had the only two hits for the winners, a pair of singles.

Heather Woodbrey hit a solo homer and Baylee Cherkis two singles for the Red Riots. Sara Pavanto fanned 16 in the loss.

At Dexter, Michelle Chapman hit two singles and drove in two runs and also pitched a shutout for Dexter.

At Richmond, Shelby Hurley smacked four singles and Katie Cray drove in three runs on two singles to lead Richmond over Greenville.

Amy Russell and Tracy Leonard each had three singles apiece for the winners.

Darla Larsen tallied three singles and two runs scored, Beth Bartley added an RBI triple and a single, and Brittany Boucher singled twice for the Lakers.

Lee sweeps Katahdin

At Sherman, Aarika Ritchie tallied four hits and four RBI in two games as Lee took two from Katahdin.

In the first game, Ritchie doubled twice and had three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Pandas.

Ronni Robinson and Lindsay Albert each singled for the Cougars.

In the second game, Ritchie notched a single and a triple with an RBI, and Kerri Harris added two doubles and an RBI for Lee. Amanda Gifford singled twice and drove in a run.

Albert scored the Cougar’s lone run on an RBI single and Chelsie Bates singled and doubled with a run scored.
