Libby singles in 7th, Devils oust Raiders

CORINTH – Alyssa Libby hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to advance the second-ranked Central Red Devils into the Eastern Maine Class C softball finals with a 5-4 win over No. 3 Washington Academy Monday.

Chantel Randall knocked a two-run single and Kristie Collins had two singles to drive in two runs for the Red Devils.

Lauren Finn had an RBI single and Ashley Tilton a double and single with an RBI for the Raiders of East Machias.

At Calais, Nikki Sargent and Morgan Traxler each hit a single in the second inning and the No. 5 Tigers of East Sullivan took advantage of three errors by the No. 1 Blue Devils for three runs in the frame en route to the upset.

Kayla Higgins, Nichole Leach and Whitney Page each added a single for Sumner.

Ashley Allen of Calais hit two doubles, driving in a run on one of those in the seventh inning to cut Sumner’s lead to one, but Higgins threw out a baserunner at third to end the game. Tessa Clark singled twice for the Blue Devils.

Bucksport 4, Ellsworth 1

At Bucksport, Terren Hall singled twice, drove in a run, and struck out six Ellsworth batters as No. 1 Bucksport remains unbeaten.

Keely Sullivan had a double, single and an RBI and Brittany Adams doubled for the Golden Bucks.

Sabrina Jellison, Maggie Seavey and Tessa Rockwood each singled for the No. 3 Eagles who finish 12-6.

At Winslow, Jill Smith and Kristen Cormier each had four RBIs as the No. 1 Black Raiders blanked the No. 4 Lions.

Smith hit two doubles and two singles, while Cormier singled twice and added a double. Brynne Davis scattered three hits in the shutout.

Brianna Webster, Brooke Reed and Jillian Ross each singled for Belfast.

Southern Aroostook 9, Ashland 7

At Dyer Brook, Jordan Sholler drove in three runs on a double and two singles and Raya King had an RBI double in the sixth inning as the No. 2 Warriors tipped the No. 3 Hornets.

Audrey Charette added two RBIs on a triple and two singles for Southern Aroostook.

Angela Belskis had three RBIs and hit two singles for Ashland while Danielle Long singled three times.

At Winslow, Kevin McCabe went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two singles, three runs scored and an RBI as No. 2 Winslow knocked off No. 3 Ellsworth.

Nate Loubier drove in two runs on two singles. Steven Siviski, Garrett Couturier and Justin Lindy each hit two singles and drove in a run for the Black Raiders.

Corey Smith tallied the lone hit for the Eagles, a single, in the top of the fourth.

Searsport 3, George Stevens 0

At Blue Hill, Nate Adams pitched a three-hit shutout and Tom Cameron drove in two runs as No. 4 Searsport ended No. 1 George Stevens Academy’s four-year run as Eastern Maine Class C champion.

Searsport had lost a pair of one-run decisions to GSA in the 2004 and 2005 regional finals and had fallen to the Eagles twice this season.

The Vikings scored the only run they needed in the top of the second as Josh Nickerson walked, went to second on Sean Johnson’s bunt single, to third on a passed ball, and scored on Cameron’s sacrifice fly.

Searsport padded its lead with two runs in the third. Bob Wilson drew a one-out walk and Caleb Ashey singled before Wilson scored on an error and Cameron singled home Ashey.

Adams struck out three in outdueling GSA lefty Collin Henry, who pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and five walks.

Ross Gallagher doubled and singled for the Eagles.

At Houlton, Hunter Caron smacked a triple and two singles with three runs scored and an RBI as No. 2 Houlton cruised past No. 11 Madawaska.

Aaron Fitzpatrick scored three times with a double, two singles and two RBI. Ryan Hall added a two-run double for the Shiretowners.

Ethan Welch, Mark Sirois and Andre Roy each singled for the Owls.

Lee 9, Central Aroostook 8

At Lee, No. 1 Lee Academy scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to knock off No. 5 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Tyler Thompson led off the scoring in the fifth with a two-run single. Charlie Boulrisse followed with a three-run home run to give the Pandas the lead for good, and T.J. Braley capped off the inning with a two-run homer.

Thompson added a solo home run in the first and Boulrisse brought in another run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double.

Andrew York struck out 10 Panda batters and hit two singles with an RBI. Sam Clockedile and Cameron York each tallied two-run singles for the Panthers.

At Stacyville, Trevor Hews laced a two-run double to spark a five-run, sixth inning rally as the No. 7 Crusaders upset No. 3 Katahdin.

Carl Chase added an RBI single for Van Buren.

Jared Anderson hit an RBI double while Cameron Cunningham and O’Neil Qualey both singled twice for the Cougars.
