WINTERPORT – Incumbent William Rogers was re-elected to another three-year term on the Town Council, and the Winterport Sewer District will now become part of the Winterport Water District after Tuesday’s municipal election.

Rogers defeated challenger Stephen Cooper by a vote of 213-170.

Annual town meeting is scheduled for 7:30 tonight at Samuel L. Wagner Middle School cafeteria.

In other municipal races Tuesday, Joseph Tyler was unopposed in his bid for re-election as assessor and received 343 votes. Kimberly Clark was unopposed for her run for another three-year term on the SAD 22 board of directors. Clark received 376 votes.

Voters also approved a measure to dissolve the Winterport Sewer District in order to fold its assets and liabilities into the Winterport Water District. The change had already been approved by the Legislature and was recommended as a way to eliminate duplication of records and other functions. The article passed by a vote of 338-122.

In another article dealing with the water district, residents voted 241-224 to allow the district to increase its debt limit from $1,200,000 to $1,750,000. Water district directors have indicated that added funds will be used for drilling new source wells and replacing some pumps.
