VEAZIE – Plans are proceeding well for the upcoming Veazie Midsummer Music Challenge, set for 2-8 p.m. Saturday, July 22, on the field by Veazie Community School.
Several bands have signed up to participate in the event featuring Top 40 songs from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Era, including Beatles songs, said Bill Masters, who is coordinating the challenge.
Tickets at $10 each will go on sale the week of July 4 at a variety of outlets around the Bangor area, with proceeds helping to purchase instruments for the music program at the Veazie School.
Masters said the committee hopes to attract 500 to 1,000 listeners to the family event, which will be chem-free. Joe Bennett, Daryl Rhodes and Joe DiStefano will be the judges.
Several sponsors have signed up, pledging $50 each to the event, which will feature music alternating on two stages. Sponsors include Merrill Merchants, Dahl-Chase, Medical Depot, Knapp’s Music, Sweet’s Market and individual contributors.
Organizers are hoping that the challenge will become a regular event that will provide an opportunity for talented local folks and also bring the community together.
