ST. JOHN PLANTATION – A local man died Saturday in a head-on collision when his motorcycle veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle, police said.

Sgt. Tom Pelletier of the Maine State Police said Adam Bourgoin, 21, was riding his 1983 Harley-Davidson south on Route 161 at 9:18 a.m. Saturday when he apparently crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of a 2006 Jeep Wrangler, Pelletier said.

The Jeep was driven by George Dubois Jr., 36, of Fort Kent.

Bourgoin struck the Jeep head-on and was dead at the scene, Pelletier said.

Police were unsure why Bourgoin veered into the opposing lane, and Pelletier said speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.

Police said it appears that driver inattention was the primary cause of the crash, though the investigation is continuing. Trooper Timmy Saucier is the primary investigator for the crash.

Kurtis Dubois, 9, the only passenger in the Jeep, suffered minor facial injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. He was treated and later released. George Dubois was not injured in the crash.

George and Kurtis Dubois were wearing seat belts, but Bourgoin was not wearing a helmet, Pelletier said.
