‘Angela’s Eyes,’ 10 p.m. Sunday Lifetime

For much of the late 1990s up until recently, Lifetime has been a reliable source for original dramas with female leads, in shows such as “Any Day Now,” “The Division” and “Strong Medicine.”

There has been a bit of a lull in the last couple of seasons, but now the cable channel is making a comeback with “Angela’s Eyes.”

This new series centers on Angela Henson (Abigail Spencer, “All My Children”), an FBI agent with a special gift: She can tell when people are lying. She teams with her partner, Leo (Lyriq Bent), and tech wizard Dozer (Joe Cobden) in a special surveillance team for the bureau.

But what does well for Angela at work often sabotages her personal relationships, as too much truth derails her chances for romance.

Also, Angela has her own secret: her parents (played by Boyd Gaines and Alberta Watson) have been imprisoned for treason for a decade.

“Angela’s Eyes,” which will have encore presentations at midnight and 2 p.m. Mondays, wraps up a case each episode for those who like their stories self-contained, but also has an ongoing mystery of whether Angela’s parents are actually guilty of the crimes of which they’ve been convicted. Spencer is a strong lead as the deeply conflicted Angela, but the rest of the cast doesn’t add a whole lot to the proceedings.

Still, this intriguing new series is worth keeping an eye on.
