BANGOR – The seventh annual Neighborhood Block Party at Chapin Park will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31. The event is produced by State Street area businesses and will feature a concert by the Bangor Band.
The rain date is Tuesday, Aug. 7.
As in the past, there will be free ice cream, soda, clowns, face painting and more. Subject to availability, there will be a variety of emergency, service and antique vehicles on display from Bangor Fire Department, Bangor Hydro, Bangor Public Works and the Hose 5 Fire Museum.
New this year will be “Read For Success” story-time program for children coordinated by United Volunteers/United Way of Eastern Maine.
Participants should bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic supper to enjoy the park. Chapin Park is an adopted park of Eastern Maine Healthcare and features a garden maintained by Hospice of Eastern Maine volunteers. The park is located behind the Abraham Lincoln School, between Forest Avenue and Parkview Avenue.
The block party is made possible by the contributions of numerous business sponsors and contributors, most of them located on State Street. The annual event is an opportunity for employees of the local enterprises to give something back to the community.
The group also sponsors an open house in support of the Hose 5 Fire Museum, located at 247 State Street. This year’s open house is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7.
