Copper, brass stolen from Bangor company

BANGOR – Copper seems to be the new cash for thieves.

Robbers took $600 worth of copper and brass Friday evening from a Dumpster behind Industrial Metals Recycling in Bangor. The manager didn’t report the theft until Monday morning.

Employees found drag marks and footprints behind the trash bin leading to a logging road 1,000 feet away in Glenburn off Broadway.

The manager told Bangor police officer William Lawrence that a witness saw an Isuzu Trooper leave the scene Friday night. The witness took down the license plate and reported the suspicious vehicle to police the next morning.

Employees who traced the drag marks to the logging road ruined the tracks, and police were unable to gather physical evidence Monday, the police report stated.

Lawrence stated in the report that the manager believed the thieves are the same ones reported about who live in Washington County, but police did not confirm those beliefs.

The theft remains under investigation.
