CASTINE – The Castine Yacht club is teaming up with Sparkman & Stephens to host the New York 32 Class 70th Birthday Celebration Tuesday, the Castine Classic Yacht Race Wednesday, and the seventh annual Castine Classic Yacht Race to Camden Thursday, Aug. 3.
The celebration schedule includes a reading and book signing by WoodenBoat magazine editor Matt Murphy at 5:30 p.m. and a lobster bake at 7:30 p.m.
The race day schedule starts at 11 a.m. with a skippers meeting at the yacht club. The six-meter class race starts at noon with the NY32 class starting at 12:10. At 2 p.m., there will be a public exhibition of Java, a restored yacht of Concordia No. 1, at the Castine town dock. Maynard Bray will have a discussion of class design features at 3 p.m., the NY32 symposium continues in the yacht clubhouse at 4 p.m., and a cocktail reception will be held at 6:30 p.m.
On Aug. 3, the skippers meeting is at 8:30 a.m. with the Castine Classic starting at 11:30 a.m.
