Hartley lifts Bangor West Yarmouth to take on Saco in today’s state title game

ELLSWORTH – Josiah Hartley pitched a one-hitter, striking out 12 and walking three as Bangor West ended its run in the State 11-12 Little League Baseball tournament with a 3-2 victory over Bucksport on Thursday.

Wyatt Ford knocked an RBI double and singled twice while Jesse Wood doubled for the winners.

Billy Deredin hit a two-run double for Bucksport.

At Ellsworth, Chris Madden laced a two-run double and singled twice to lead Elliot Ave. of Auburn to victory.

Corbin Hyde had an RBI single and Ben Chicione singled twice.

Buddy Simmons led Waldoboro with a three-run homer.

At Ellsworth, Campbell Haley knocked a solo home run and an RBI double to lead Yarmouth past Saco.

The same two teams will battle in today’s state championship game.

Louie Vistasio hit a grand slam and added an RBI single for Yarmouth and Marshall Brunelle added an RBI double and Nate Pingitare a solo homer.

Kyle Foster led Saco with an RBI double.

Portland North 6, Saco 2

At Rod McPherson Field in Holden, righthander Nate Smart scattered eight hits, striking out seven and not walking anybody, and Nick Volger hit a two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning as Portland North captured the championship.

Volger’s double followed singles by Luke Boyle and Ryan Casale and expanded the lead to 5-2.

Mike Flaherty’s lead-off single triggered a three-run first-inning rally for Portland North. It was the only hit of the inning.

Mike Mynahan’s RBI single and Brandon Briggs’ run-scoring fielder’s choice cut the lead to 3-2 in the second.

Casale had two singles for the winners and Volger drove in three runs.

Jeff Gelinas, who pitched a complete-game six-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks, had two singles for Saco while Andrew Carignan and Zack Lombard each had a single and scored a run.
