BANGOR – Warren Center speech-language pathologist Amy Bragg of Holden has been promoted to clinical director of speech pathology at the center.
Bragg has been with the Warren Center full time since May 1996. In addition to her clinical work, she will supervise the speech pathology staff and assist with department scheduling and training.
Bragg is a graduate of the University of Maine with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in communication disorders. She currently serves as the president of the Maine Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Dr. Amanda Samoluk of Hampden, Warren Center audiologist, has been promoted to clinical director of audiology. In addition to assisting audiology patients, Samoluk’s new responsibilities include assisting with budgets, department scheduling and training.
She has been with the Warren Center since January 2002. She earned a bachelor’s degree in audiology and speech-language pathology from Michigan State University, and a doctorate of audiology from Ball State University.
Physical disabilities support
BANGOR – The Physical Disabilities Support Group will not meet today, but will hold a picnic 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Paul Bunyan Park off Main Street. The rain date is Aug. 17.
Volunteers are needed to help with cooking, serving and cleanup. Those planning to attend may notify Gaelen about what they plan to bring at swinc@yahoo.com.
Family members are welcome to attend as well.
Diabetes support group
BANGOR – St. Joseph Healthcare’s Diabetes & Nutrition Center has announced that an evening diabetes support group has been added to the diabetes patient support program. The evening meetings are held 6-8 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
For a number of years, St. Joseph Healthcare’s Diabetes & Nutrition Center has been the host of free diabetes support group meetings at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. Those meetings continue today with a program on “Osteoporosis and Diabetes.”
The Diabetes & Nutrition Center staff recently added an evening meeting to accommodate individuals who are unable to attend the daytime meetings.
Guest speaker Georgia Clark-Albert, registered dietitian of St. Joseph Healthcare’s Diabetes & Nutrition Center, will speak on the topic “Ask the Registered Dietitian” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, meeting.
During diabetes support group meetings, group members share personal experiences relating to diabetes management, stress reduction techniques and daily coping skills. Diabetes educators are available to facilitate the meetings and provide updates on nutrition, exercise, medications and supplies, as well as answer any questions.
The support group is free and open to individuals with diabetes and their family members.
