Store owner injured in fire still in hospital

PORTLAND – The owner of a convenience store in Dayton remains in critical condition Tuesday at Maine Medical Center after a fire destroyed his living quarters above his store.

Firefighters received a call about the fire Monday morning at the convenience store owned by David Levecque at the corner of Routes 5 and 35.

Goodwins Mills Fire Chief Bruce Mullen said flames were blowing out of a second-story window when firefighters arrived. The fire destroyed the second-floor apartment, and the store had water and smoke damage.

Levecque was helped from his apartment by his brother and a friend. State fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire, which is thought to have started in the bedroom.
