American Lung Association meeting and luncheon
The American Lung Association of Maine will hold its annual meeting and awards luncheon 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the South Portland Marriott, Sable Oaks, South Portland.
At the luncheon, the American Lung Association of Maine will present the following awards:
. Roselle Huddilston Award. John A. LaCasse, president of Medical Care Development, is the 2006 recipient for outstanding leadership in improving the health of Maine people.
. Patient Advocacy Award. Janey Barthelette, Mary Callahan and Rebecca Hitchcock are honored for their commitment, passion and leadership in improving the lives of people with COPD.
. Distinguished Service Award. The Bangor Wellness Council is recognized for excellence in promoting workplace wellness.
. Youth Advocacy Award. Ellsworth High School’s Student Health Awareness Group is recognized for excellence in youth advocacy and leadership in educating peers about tobacco prevention.
. Healthy Air Award. Maine Green Power Connection is honored for leadership in promoting clean, renewable energy.
A Gubernatorial Candidates Health Policy Forum will be held during the annual meeting and awards luncheon.
Confirmed participants include Gov. John Baldacci, Alex Hammer, Pat LaMarche, state Rep. Barbara Merrill and state Sen. Chandler Woodcock.

Low-cost dental care
BANGOR – The University of Maine System offers a low-cost dental hygiene clinic to the public from September to April.
All dental hygiene services are provided, including oral exams, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, athletic mouth guards and X-rays.
Services are provided by dental hygiene students under the close supervision of faculty. For more information, call the University College of Bangor Dental Health Programs at 262-7872.
