STORRS, Conn. – Anjelica Hodgson’s goal at 20:56 of the first half Sunday helped the University of Maine women’s soccer team battle to a 1-1 draw with the University of Connecticut in the UConn Classic.
Hodgson headed the ball in off a corner kick by Marie-Michele Bouchard. Jasmine Phillips made six saves on 25 shots for the 1-0-1 Black Bears.
UConn tied the game at 56:14 when Niki Cross scored on a header off a corner kick as well. Amanda Schwartz and Stephanie Labbe each made a save and faced a combined five shots for the 1-0-1 Huskies.
Men’s soccer
Boston College 4, Maine 1
At Chestnut Hill, Mass., Charlie Davies scored two goals and recorded an assist to lead Boston College by the University of Maine Sunday.
Maine senior Cooper Friend scored on a direct kick from 19 yards out. Giacomo Brunino made six saves on 21 shots for the 0-2 Black Bears.
Maine was outshot by the Eagles 21-3, including a 16-3 advantage in the second half.
Mike Konicoff and Chris Carey each added another goal for Boston College. Shane Boggis had no saves on three shots for the 1-1 Eagles.
Volleyball
Maine falls to Cincinnati
At Cincinnati, the University of Maine volleyball team concluded play in the 2006 State Farm Bearcat Invitational with a 3-0 loss to host school Cincinnati. The Black Bears, who fell to 0-3, lost 21-30, 14-30 and 18-30.
Sophomore Brittany Kiehl led the Black Bears with five kills. Lindsay Allman added 14 digs, two blocks and a service ace, while senior Shelly Seipp had 12 assists and four digs. Jessica Wolfenden notched nine assists and Jody Connacher tallied nine digs.
