A Veazie man was summoned early Monday morning on multiple charges after he reportedly hit a parked car near the corner of School Street and Oak Grove in Veazie and then drove away.

Ronald St. Pierre, 18, was intoxicated when he drove his father’s 2000 Chrysler Sebring, which had temporary license plates, into a Veazie woman’s parked 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, according to Veazie police Officer T.J. Warner.

The Grand Am was pushed about eight feet from where it was parked and rolled to rest against a house, causing minimal damage to its siding, according to police reports.

The Chrysler had $2,500 in damage, while the damage to the Pontiac totaled $4,000.

Warner received a tip from a person in the neighborhood to check a particular home. Upon arriving there he noted that the silver Chrysler Sebring in the driveway had extensive damage to its left front end which corresponded to damage on the Pontiac.

Warner, along with Penobscot County Deputy Doug Smith and Orono police Officer Jason Zalva, knocked at the residence and St. Pierre’s father emerged from the home.

When his father went to get him, St. Pierre was visibly intoxicated and initially denied hitting the parked vehicle, according to Warner.

St. Pierre eventually told police he had hit the car and was given an Intoxilyzer test which showed his blood alcohol was .06. St. Pierre was charged with operating without a license, but not with operating under the influence of intoxicants. He also was summoned for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to notify police of an accident.

A Newburgh woman suffered minor cuts and abrasions in a one-car crash Tuesday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m., Jennifer Higgins, 23, lost control of her 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The car swerved and then went into a ditch, where it hit a culvert and rolled over, according to police reports. It is not known if Higgins was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

Higgins was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center with minor injuries after Hampden police arrived at the scene. She was released that afternoon.

Police reports indicate that based on reports at the scene, the accident may have been caused by a mechanical failure in the vehicle, but the exact cause is unknown at this time. Alcohol is not thought to have been involved.
