BOYS

Big School (Classes A-B)

SHANE WALTON

Walton, a junior on the Bangor High football team, rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries as the Rams edged Lewiston 42-35 at Cameron Stadium in Bangor. Walton also stopped Lewiston star Jared Turcotte at the 1-yard line with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.

Small School (Classes C-D)

VICTOR QUINT

Quint, a senior on the Maine Central Institute football team, scored three touchdowns during the third quarter of the Huskies’ season opening 37-36 win over Stearns of Millinocket. One came on an 85-yard kickoff return, one on an 83-yard punt return and the third on a 43-yard pass reception. He also kicked the game-winning extra point in the final minute as MCI scored after recovering a fumble deep in Stearns territory.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

KELSEY BOSS

Boss, a freshman for the Foxcroft Academy field hockey team, has scored six goals in two games to help the Ponies stay undefeated. Boss scored all three goals in a 3-1 win over Nokomis of Newport and added three more in a 4-0 victory over Bangor.

Small School (Classes C-D)

BRIANNE MCGARY

The Hodgdon senior scored all four goals in a pointworthy 4-0 Eastern Maine Class D win over Fort Fairfield Tuesday to boost the Hawks’ record to 5-3. The Tigers were 5-1 entering the game.
