UMaine women down URI to stay unbeaten

ORONO – Laura Harper and McKayla Bell each netted an unassisted goal Sunday as the University of Maine women’s soccer team remained undefeated with a 2-0 victory over Rhode Island.

Jasmine Phillips recorded her fourth shutout of the season with four saves on eight shots for the 6-0-1 Black Bears.

Amanda Thomas made 10 saves on 19 shots for the 3-5 Rams.

UMaine-Fort Kent 4, Unity 0

At Fort Kent, Sarah Pinnette scored three first-half goals Saturday as UMaine-Fort Kent improved to 5-0.

Stephanie Schofield added a goal and Maria Williams tallied two assists. Heather Hartman saved the only shot she faced for the Lady Bengals.

Christine Blakesly made 18 saves on 22 shots for Unity.

Mitchell 2, UM-Presque Isle 1

At New London, Conn., Mallory Silva’s goal with 6:15 left Saturday was the game-winner for host Mitchell.

Jessica Calcaterra assisted on the goal. Alex Chatilovicz scored a first-half goal. Molly Gill made seven saves on eight shots.

Erin Pelletier scored the goal for the Owls on an assist from Marilee Waugh. Billie Martin made eight saves on 17 shots.

Husson 3, Saint Joseph’s 1

At Standish, Shelby Pickering tallied a goal and an assist Sunday to lead Husson past Saint Joseph’s.

Shelby Morissette, Samantha Homer and Katie Jordan each scored a goal for the 3-1-1 Eagles of Bangor. Danielle Billings chipped in with an assist and Leah Drew made six saves on nine shots.

Katie Jordan scored on an Anna Willis assist for the 2-2 Monks. Monica Cuda made three saves on seven shots.

Thomas 3, Lesley 2

At Waterville Saturday, Karen Demers’ third goal of the game was also the game-winner, 6 minutes and 38 seconds into overtime, on a pass from Heather Tatham.

Demers’ other goals came off a corner kick in the first half and Brittany Morin’s assist in the second. Sarah Wedge made seven saves on 13 shots.

Lesley Fralick scored two unassisted goals for 2-2 Thomas. Shannon Proctor made nine saves on 18 shots.

Colby 1, Bowdoin 1 (OT)

At Waterville Saturday, neither team could get a tie-breaking score in overtime, so the New England Small College Athletic Conference foes settled for a tie.

Laura Williamson scored unassisted for 1-0-2 Colby with 10:47 left in the first half. Liza Benson made 16 saves on 25 shots.

Dana Riker scored without an assist for 1-0-2 Bowdoin of Brunswick just 5:43 into the game. Katherine Popoff made 10 saves on 25 shots.

MMA 10, UM-Machias 0

At Castine Saturday, Jessie Taylor came off the bench to score three goals and assist on another to lead the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners past the University of Maine-Machias.

Kristen Gaylord had a goal and four assists for the 1-1-1 Mariners. Diana Manatt-Rogers had two goals and one assist. Kristin Gabor added a goal and an assist. Jessica Hewitt made the save on UMM’s only shot of the game.

Alicia Schmidt made 16 saves on 38 shots for the 1-2 Clippers.

Wheaton 2, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington Saturday, Jenna Rabesa scored one goal and assisted on the other in the first half as Wheaton beat UMaine-Farmington.

Jessica Bramucci scored the other goal for 6-1 Wheaton. Stacey Kronenberg made four saves on five shots.

Alix Raymond made 11 saves on 18 shots for the 1-2 Beavers.

UM-Farmington 3, Lesley 1

At Farmington Sunday, Liv Irons and Melissa St. Amand scored within 52 seconds of each other to give UMaine-Farmington the lead for good.

Jackie Mrazik added an insurance goal for the 2-2 Beavers. Alix Raymond stopped two of three shots.

Jodi Fralick scored from 25-yards out for Lesley. Sarah Wedge stopped 17 of 33 shots.

Men’s soccer

Bowdoin 2, Colby 0

At Waterville, Luke Welch and Nick Figueiredo each netted a goal Saturday as Bowdoin took the win over Colby.

Will Grueber had the cross to Welch for the header in the first half. Nathan Lovitz stopped four of 12 shots for the 2-0 Polar Bears.

Josh Kahane made one save on 11 shots for the 0-1-2 White Mules.

Cal Poly 5, Maine 1

At Pomona, Calif., Todd Combs scored two goals Friday to lead California Polytechnic by the University of Maine.

Berrett Park, Anton Peterlin and Ben Hancock each added a goal for Cal Poly. Eric Branagan-Franco made two saves on three shots for the 2-3-2 Broncos.

Jason Jacobe scored Maine’s goal with an assist from Cooper Friend. Brunino Giacomo made seven saves on 20 shots for the 0-7 Black Bears.

Husson 4, Saint Joseph’s 1

At Standish, Hiroki Ueda and Oscar Ody notched a goal and an assist apiece Sunday as Husson downed Saint Joseph’s.

Nattapong Kongsuriya and Hiroshi Iwabuchi each added a goal and Tony Thompson tallied two assists for the 3-1-1 Eagles of Bangor. Bradley Ala saved 12 of 13 shots.

Kevin Melega scored on a Harrison Deah assist for the 2-3 Monks. Greg Cavanaugh and Kenny Kehoe combined to make four saves on 13 shots.

Saint Joseph’s 4, Becker 1

At Standish, Lane Hubacz, David Rosquete, David Hakes and Doug MacCallum each scored a goal Saturday to rally from a 1-0 deficit and defeat Becker College.

Kevin Hageman, Harrison Deah, Stephen Jette and Shannon DeShield each recorded an assist. Cory Smith made three saves on 16 shots for the 2-2 Monks.

Cory Rosenblatt scored an unassisted goal for Becker while Chris Kirwan made three saves on 12 shots for the 4-1 Eagles.

R.I. College 1, Southern Maine 0

At Gorham on Saturday, Derek Rocha scored the only goal of the match to lead Rhode Island College by the University of Southern Maine.

Sean Gonsalves made no saves on four shots for the 3-0 Anchormen.

Chris Willard made nine saves on 20 shots for the 4-3 Huskies.

UMM 1, Maine Maritime 1

At Castine on Saturday, Alan Alexander of Maine Maritime Academy scored the game-tying goal at the 30:34 mark off a pass from Garrett Hutchins to force a 1-1 tie with University of Maine-Machias.

Josh Heath made 10 saves on 17 shots for the 0-4-1 Mariners.

Brett Howarth scored the goal for UM-Machias with the assist from Danny Parez. Kellen Shavor made seven saves on 24 shots for the 2-0-1 Clippers.

Mitchell 3, UMPI 2

At New London, Conn., Joshua Griffo tallied a goal and an assist Saturday to lead Mitchell College by University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Chris Mckinnel and Kevin Patterson each added a goal for Mitchell. Ryan West made six saves on 12 shots for the Pequots.

Chuck Reece and Joseph Pinault each scored a goal for UM-Presque Isle. Scott Clenchy stopped five of 18 shots for the Owls.
