Police arrest unruly Bangor man twice Sunday

A Bangor man was arrested twice and shocked with a Taser within a 21/2-hour period early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the Ramada Inn on Odlin Road because the owner said that Herman Rodriguez, 36, refused to leave the establishment.

Bangor police officers responded to the scene after repeated attempts to get Rodriguez to leave the scene failed. According to the police report, after warning him to leave repeatedly, the officers attempted to handcuff Rodriguez, who continued to fight the officers.

Officer Jason Stuart told Rodriguez that he would be Tasered if he continued resisting. Rodriguez refused to comply and Officer Stuart shocked him twice with his Taser gun.

After this the officers were able to handcuff him and force him into the cruiser. He was charged with criminal trespass and refusing to submit to arrest and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was released on bail after about an hour.

At approximately 3 a.m. Bangor police Officer David Bushey noticed that several mailboxes had been knocked over outside of the U.S. Post Office on Western Avenue in Hampden.

The same Herman Rodriguez was standing in the middle of the road. Officer Bushey asked Rodriguez if he had knocked over the mailboxes. Rodriguez denied doing it.

Police at the scene determined that Rodriguez’s shoes matched shoeprints on the mailboxes.

Rodriguez was placed under arrest once again, charged with violation of conditional release and criminal mischief, and returned to Penobscot County Jail.

Bangor police responded to Raena’s Pub off Larkin Street at 1:11 a.m. Saturday for an apparent stabbing, but are releasing few other details while the incident is being investigated. One person was transported to a local hospital, Sgt. Jim Owens said Sunday, but he released no other details except to say no one had been arrested.

Bangor police arrested a Knox man early Saturday morning after the vehicle he was driving struck the cement support structure for the railroad bridge that crosses Main Street near the Hampden town line.

Steven Harrington, 45, told Bangor police Officer Michael Jewett about 1 a.m. that he lost control on the curve. Jewett determined that Harrington was intoxicated and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants.

Police arrested a Hampden man Saturday and charged him with unlawful possession of Schedule V drugs and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

James Hustus, 30, was stopped by Holden police Officer Chris Greeley around 4 p.m. Saturday on Route 1A for having a cracked windshield and expired registration sticker. Officer Greeley said Sunday that Hustus could not present any identification and said that the car he was driving was not his. Hustus’ license had been suspended the day before.

Searching the vehicle, Greeley found a plastic bag containing eight Flexeril pills, for which Hustus did not have a prescription.

– COMPILED BY BDN REPORTERS NICK MCCREA, NOK-NOI HAUGER AND DOUG KESSELI

Correction: In Monday’s From Police Files column in the final edition, an item incorrectly stated that the second arrest of Herman Rodriguez took place in Hampden. It actually took place outside of the Penobscot County Courthouse in Bangor.
