Smith, Merritt carry John Bapst past Minutemen

MILLINOCKET – Nick Smith racked up 183 yards on 16 carries and scored five touchdowns to lead the John Bapst Crusaders to a 54-18 high school football victory over the Stearns Minutemen Friday night.

Charlie Merritt was 11-for-12 passing with 153 yards and three touchdowns. Zach Lapierre caught a 15-yard pass from Merritt for a touchdown while Kyle Gallant had a 4-yard run for a score. Tyler Chamberlain had a 34-yard touchdown run for the Crusaders.

Gene Kim had 165 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns for Stearns, including an 84-yard touchdown run.

Bucksport 7, Mattanawcook 6

At Lincoln, Derek Fish completed a 6-yard pass to Todd Freeman in the first quarter to lead the Bucksport Golden Bucks to a key Eastern Maine Class C victory.

Chris Maguire converted the extra-point kick, which proved to be the difference in the game for Bucksport. He also had 13 carries for 46 yards.

Chris Gray ran for 32 yards on 13 carries and Freeman added 27 yards on 11 carries.

Brady Vose ran 15 yards to score a touchdown in the third quarter for the Lynx. He had 20 carries for 70 yards.

Steve Braley had 71 yards on nine carries and Ian Nevells totaled 11 tackles.

Foxcroft 50, Orono 0

At Orono, Brad Bellemare rushed 11 times for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns and added a receiving TD to lead Foxcroft Academy to victory.

Ian Imbert converted a 4-yard run for a touchdown for the Ponies and Ben Provost had a 20-yard run for a score. Jamie Nason scored on a 19-yard run and Ian Champeon added a 48-yard touchdown run.

David White completed a four-yard TD pass to Bellemare. Shane Adkins had three carries for 40 yards.

Bill Macomber and Tim Nason each converted two-point rushes and Bellemare successfully kicked four of five extra points.

Cash Keezer completed five of seven passes for 90 yards for Orono. Brian Hennigan caught two passes for 64 yards and Jared Bussell rushed for 40 yards on nine carries.

Matt Baker had 10 tackles.

At Gardiner, Kyle Stilphen completed an 87-yard pass to Nick Jamison in the second quarter and later ran 10 yards for a score to lead Gardiner past Winslow.

Stilphen completed two of five passes for 91 yards for Gardiner and converted a two-point conversion with a pass to Mike Lavalle.

Dan Fortune ran three yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. He totaled 130 yards on 28 carries.

John Goulette scored on a six-yard run and a three-yard run for Winslow. He had nine carries for 63 yards.

Justin Lindie rushed for 142 yards on 12 carries. Ben Poulin had two extra-point kicks.

Biddeford, Brunswick win

In other action around the state, Biddeford defeated Sanford 22-6, Bonny Eagle of Standish rolled by Westbrook 35-0, Brunswick beat Oxford Hills of South Paris 35-13 and Gorham beat Deering of Portland 36-12.

Also: Gray-New Gloucester downed Falmouth 22-8, Marshwood of Eliot rolled by Scarborough 36-0, Mt. Blue of Farmington beat Edward Little of Auburn 23-0, Mountain Valley of Rumford cruised by Greely of Cumberland Center 35-7, Noble defeated Massabesic 39-26, and Portland defeated Windham 25-14.

Two games were also postponed to Saturday when Belfast will be at Leavitt in Turner and Old Orchard will visit Rockland.
