Ross gains 230 yards as Broncos outrun Witches

HAMPDEN – Senior fullback Kyle Ross rushed for 230 yards on 35 carries and scored two touchdowns as Hampden Academy earned a 20-11 high school football victory Saturday over Brewer during the Broncos’ Homecoming celebration.

Ross scored on runs of 2 yards in the second quarter and 33 yards in the third period as Hampden built a 14-3 lead.

Brewer fullback Tim Bush scored on a 6-yard run and added the two-point conversion to pull the Witches within 14-11 in the fourth quarter.

Bob Seger provided Hampden with some insurance, returning a pass interception 40 yards for a touchdown on the game’s final play.

MDI 28, Morse 27

At Bath, Mount Desert Island rallied from a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit to spoil the Shipbuilders’ Homecoming celebration.

Morse (2-3) had built a 27-12 lead before MDI came from behind in dramatic fashion. Tyler Crawford returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown and Sean Parady passed to Alex Keene for the two-point conversion to cut the gap to 27-20.

Senior offensive tackle Chris Fernald scored MDI’s final touchdown with 1:30 left, recovering a fumble by teammate Jon Hall in the end zone. Parady passed to Vincent Moore for the two-point conversion that gave the 4-1 Trojans their final margin of victory.

Hall had scored on a 3-yard run, and Odane Gaynor had broken an 81-yard scoring run earlier in the game, but Morse built its lead as Darrus Grate scored on a 81-yard run, T.J. Vigue had a 7-yard touchdown run, Jamie Dunning passed 27 yards to Logan Russell for another score and Russell scored a second touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Gaynor finished with 92 yards on four carries for MDI, while Tyler Murphy gained 63 yards on 10 tries and Hall added 54 yards on 12 carries. Parady completed 9 of 17 passes for 109 yards.

Danny Dunn paced the MDI defense with nine tackles, including 21/2 quarterback sacks. Scooby Albee had eight tackles and one assist, while Max Dority had six tackles, two assists and a quarterback sack.

Dexter 32, MCI 15

At Dexter, Josh Cousins ran for 183 yards on 27 carries and scored two touchdowns to help lead Dexter to a Homecoming victory.

Steve Robinson had 11 carries for 78 yards and rushed for two touchdowns for the Tigers. He also completed four of seven passes for 42 yards.

Fullback Mike Lockhart scored from 1 yard out in the first quarter.

Zach Dorion ran 15 yards to score a touchdown for Maine Central Institute. He also completed a 65-yard pass to Matt Delaney for a score.

Dorion completed nine passes for 181 yards.

Shawn Bennett had five carries for 63 yards and Adam Audette added 91 yards on 14 rushes.

Rockland 14, Old Orchard 9

At Wasgatt Field in Rockland, Josh Elwell had four pass receptions for 47 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Weiss, as the Tigers knocked off previously unbeaten Old Orchard Beach in a Class C crossover game Saturday.

The win also avenges a loss to the Seagulls last year for Rockland, now 3-2 on the season.

Old Orchard Beach took a 2-0 first-quarter lead when the Seagulls blocked a Rockland punt out of the end zone.

That lead stood until the third quarter, when Rockland scored both of its touchdowns.

Weiss passed to Elwell to give the Tigers a 6-2 lead.

Later in the period, backup tailback Mark Boynton scored on a 13-yard run and Weiss passed to Elwell for the two-point conversion to give Rockland a 14-2 advantage.

Quarterback Dean Perrone scored Old Orchard Beach’s lone touchdown on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter, and Donald Dutton added the extra-point kick to pull the 4-1 Seagulls within 14-9.

Weiss paced Rockland’s offense with 53 rushing yards and four pass completions for 47 yards. Starting tailback Mike Marsh rushed for 34 yards on 11 carries before leaving the game with an injury.

Kyle Murphy led Old Orchard Beach with 144 yards on 27 carries, while Casey Bisson added 61 yards on 17 rushes.

Rockland’s defense forced six turnovers in the game, including pass interceptions by Weiss, Nick Baudanza and Dom Morrill and fumble recoveries by Morrill, Dale Damon and Pat McMahon.

At Turner Center, quarterback Evan Barker rushed for 90 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Hornets earned the PTC Class B victory.

Barker scored on runs of 4, 4 and 1 yard, and also completed 7 of 8 passes for 90 yards.

Tyler Green rushed for 101 yards on 16 carries for Leavitt.

Travis Lee paced Belfast with 115 rushing yards and the Lions’ lone touchdown on a 5-yard run in the second quarter.
