Defense backs up Hamilton, Mariners in victory

WORCESTER, Mass. – Brandon Goodrich caught a 67-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Hamilton in the fourth quarter to seal a 12-3 victory for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine over Worcester State Saturday in college football action.

Hamilton finished with 123 rushing yards and 134 passing yards. Jim Bower rushed for 50 yards and a first-quarter TD. The Mariner defense allowed just 42 rushing yards.

Worcester State’s Pat Good passed for 146 yards and Tom Gabriel made a 30-yard field goal.

Colby 24, Wesleyan 21

At Waterville Saturday, Brian Bachow nailed a 22-yard field goal with 26 seconds left in the game, then notched a game-saving tackle on the ensuing kickoff return to lift the White Mules.

Bachow tackled Wesleyan’s Joe Pepe at the Wesleyan 46-yard line after he got past the rest of the defense. Chafic George intercepted a pass on the last play of the game to seal the Mules’ win.

Justin Smith led Colby with 215 passing yards and three touchdowns. Wesleyan’s Zach Librizzi passed for 232 yards.

At Lewiston, the Ephs scored 24 points in less than eight minutes of the third quarter to rally for the win.

Williams quarterback Pat Lucey passed for two touchdowns and Kevin Flynn ran for another in the third to rally from a 7-3 halftime deficit.

Matt Gregg led the Bobcats with five catches for 128 yards. Brandon Colon completed 13 passes for 200 yards.

At Brunswick Saturday, Matt Russo completed six of 13 passes for 72 yards and one score and Will Forde rushed for 70 yards as the Jumbos earned the win.

Chris Guild ran for a 9-yard touchdown and David Halas caught an 8-yard Russo pass for another.

Tom Duffy led Bowdoin with 125 passing yards, including a 1-yard TD toss to Mike Karrat.
