After a string of vehicle burglaries in Glenburn and Bangor early Saturday morning, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents to lock their car doors.

Fourteen unlocked vehicles were burglarized and small items such as cell phones, compact discs, cash and credit cards were taken, Deputy Will Sheehan said Saturday.

Stolen items that appeared unwanted have been found discarded on the side of the road, Sheehan said.

The burglaries occurred between 2:30 and 5 a.m. Saturday. While most took place in Glenburn, a few happened in Bangor. The incidents are under investigation. An estimated combined value of the stolen items was not available, Sheehan said.

A car is believed to have been stolen sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and early Saturday afternoon. The owner parked the car outside an apartment at 92 Oak St. and returned the next day to find it missing.

The vehicle is a blue 2002 Honda Accord valued at approximately $15,000. Bangor police Officer Rob Angelo responded to the call and found that the keys to the car were still in the owner’s possession and it had not been towed away.

A Bangor man was arrested after he interfered with ambulance personnel who were trying to tend to his daughter after an ATV accident.

Bangor police Sgt. Bob Bishop and Officer Russell Twadell responded to a call of a “serious injury ATV accident” on Stillwater Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday.

When the officers arrived, they found emergency personnel attending to the victim. According to the police report, Kevin Miller, 48, approached the paramedics and told them to step away so he could see his daughter.

The officers believed Miller was heavily intoxicated and told him to let the paramedics do their job. According to the report, Miller began trying to push the ambulance personnel away and then made a motion as if to punch one of the officers as they tried to pull him away from the scene.

The officers took Miller to the ground and said that if he did not settle down he would be arrested. The officers arrested Miller when he continued to fight them.

Miller was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with obstructing government administration. The police report states that after arriving at the jail, Miller was apologetic and said he “went crazy” and just wanted to help his daughter. He also admitted to consuming alcohol before the incident.

A Glenburn man was arrested and charged with operating under the influence after he drove over a curb on School Street and continued to drive down Broadway with two flat tires.

Paul Ralph, 61, was seen leaving the Hannaford parking lot at approximately 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

According to the police report, he drove over a curb, causing two of his tires to go flat and continued down Broadway. Bangor police Officer Michael Brennan stopped Ralph shortly afterward.

Officer Brennan smelled what he believed to be mouthwash on Ralph’s breath. When Ralph was getting his paperwork from the glove box, the officer saw what appeared to be a bottle of mouthwash. Officer Brennan asked Ralph to get out of the vehicle and conducted field sobriety tests.

Soon after Ralph failed the tests, the officer noticed a holster holding a revolver in the back seat of the vehicle. Officer Brennan asked Ralph if he had a gun, which he denied until the officer pointed it out to him.

Brennan arrested Ralph and took the gun away as evidence.
