NEWPORT – With the town’s solid waste budget $54,000 in the red, Newport selectmen are seeking ways to make the facility more cost effective.

The selectmen’s meeting this week will include a discussion of composting alternatives, baling services and an update of the overall financial situation at the facility.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the town office conference room and will also include a policy discussion on pre-employment drug testing.
