Likely rain forces rescheduling State cross country, field hockey pushed to next Saturday

Predicted inclement weather on Saturday has prompted the rescheduling of a number of high school regional and state championship events.

The state championship field hockey tripleheader scheduled for Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland has been moved to Saturday, Nov. 4, at the same location with the same game times. The Class C final between Central of Corinth and St. Dominic of Lewiston will be played at 10 a.m., followed at noon by the Class B game between Belfast and York. The Class A title game between Skowhegan and Gorham will be played at 2 p.m.

Also pushed back a week is the state high school cross country championship meet at Leavitt Area High School in Turner Center. That meet, originally scheduled for Saturday, will be held on Nov. 4.

Game times for two Eastern Maine Class B football quarterfinals Saturday have been changed. The Mount Desert Island at Waterville game will be played at 2 p.m., while Leavitt will play Winslow in a noon start.

Several Eastern Maine soccer finals have been postponed. The Class A boys final between Bangor and Brunswick has been moved to Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Brunswick, while the Eastern B boys final between John Bapst of Bangor and Ellsworth will now be played at 4 p.m. Monday at Hermon High School.

Among games still scheduled for Saturday are three regional soccer finals: the Eastern A girls game between Waterville and Mount Ararat of Topsham, set for an 11 a.m. start in Waterville; the Eastern B girls game between Ellsworth and Winslow, also starting at 11 a.m. at Winslow; and the Eastern D boys final that sends Van Buren to Ashland for a 1 p.m. opening kick.
