Helicopter mechanics recognized for service

OLD TOWN – Three veteran helicopter mechanics were recognized Wednesday for their tireless efforts in keeping the fleet of six “Huey” helicopters flight-ready to respond to forest fires around the state.

The ceremony was held on at the Department of Conservation-Maine Forest Service headquarters in Old Town.

Ray Hichborn, Ed Harvey and Bob Irvine have a combined total of 110 years of helicopter maintenance experience and play an instrumental role in keeping the aircraft flight worthy at all times. Because of this readiness, the forest service is able to keep fire costs well below the national average and protect valuable homes and other properties, while minimizing loss of acreage.
